WHAT IS KINDERMUSIK?

Kindermusik is music-making with a purpose for children ages birth to seven years old. It is taught by a licensed Kindermusik Educator. Early introduction to music and movement impacts your child’s brain and body development in a way few other learning methods can. We should know. We’ve been transforming the lives of children, parents, and teachers around the world since 1978. Science has shown that children of any age learn more when the learning is playful and fun. Kindermusik kids laugh, smile, stomp, play, kick, clap, jump, sing, and dance. But having fun is just the beginning.

Steeped in educational theory, our programs engage the potential found in every child. Through our dynamic classes, in-school programs, and research-based curriculum, we excel at setting a strong foundation for a lifetime of learning. Our purpose is simple. We’re here to develop young minds and change the world. One child at a time.
Discover the power and joy of music-based learning  LET IT BEGIN WITH KINDERMUSIK®!

WHAT IS KINDERMUSIK?

Kindermusik is a music and movement program with curriculum for children ages birth through seven years old.  More specifically, Kindermusik classes provide a holistic musical and learning experience in the critical first years of young children and their families.  This developmental program, guided by a proven methodology combining music and childhood development, provides opportunities to foster child-parent relationships and gain a lifelong love of music and learning.  It is taught by a trained and licensed Kindermusik educator.

The Kindermusik@Home digital home materials bring the music, activities, and each month’s story everywhere you go. The repetition enhances the learning and the fun! KINDERMUSIK INTERGENERATIONAL CLASSES

Edwardsville

INTERGENERATIONAL  “SING & PLAY” CLASS

for FAMILIES who have

CHILDREN AGES 1 - 2 YEARS OLD

Classes are held on Mondays at 2pm and are continual throughout the year with twelve 4-week class themes. The $40 tuition includes 4 – 45 minute classes PLUS 1 state-of-the-art digital AT-HOME MATERIALS SET (one per family) for this community service-oriented class.

An intergenerational Kindermusik class is an absolute “win-win” for both the seniors AND your children! There are multiple benefits including opportunities for the children to be around this generation especially if they do not have grandparents nearby.  Children ages 1 & 2 are most receptive to interacting with these seniors and this only ADDS to the magic of the Kindermusik experience.  Seniors with dementia significantly benefit from the interactions with children combined with the powerful “brain effects” of music.

KINDERMUSIK CLASSES at
LEWIS & CLARK COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Music Preparatory School
Godfrey Campus

Kindermusik's "Move & Groove" is an award-winning enrichment program for preschoolers. It is a research-based language and early literacy curriculum built around music.  This curriculum helps develop pre-literacy and language skills through a child’s most-loved rituals: music and storytime.  "Move & Groove" supports the early childhood standards and requirements for “high quality programs” as defined by the National Institute for Early Education. Plus, it  aligns with pre-K national and state standards.

Students who received Kindermusik instruction showed significantly larger gains (32% more improvement) on the Phonological Awareness Test ("PALS™") than did students who did not receive Kindermusik instruction. These results indicate that the Kindermusik program successfully boosts preschoolers’ language and literacy skills.

Kindermusik One-Time Activities

I offer Kindermusik activities for children’s groups and have met up with play groups, preschools, and libraries to have some great musical fun with their children. Having a one-time activity is a great way to get a sampling of the Kindermusik experience before committing to a semester of classes!

Kindermusik Parent Talk and Sampler Class

I also offer educational talks to parent groups about music and childhood development as they relate to the benefits of the Kindermusik experience. I then follow-up with a sampler class for the whole family. Your school or church may want to consider scheduling Kindermusik for their next PTO meeting or special activity.

"KINDERMUSIK WITH ELLEN SINGH" PROGRAM

COURTESY INFORMATION AND CLASS POLICIES

Choosing a Class

The age recommendations outlined for Kindermusik classes have been carefully constructed to best group children in an age and developmentally appropriate way.  Therefore, it is important that your child be at least the minimum age by the start of the class in which you are enrolling.  If you have concerns about your child’s success in a particular age range, I would be happy to discuss your child’s needs and to work with you to place him/her in the class best suited for him/her.

Register Early

Although you may join my classes at any time, please register early since class sizes are limited and many fill quickly.  Registering at least three weeks before the class begins also ensures that I should have your child’s materials for you at your first class

Enrollment Confirmation

A registration form and required payment must be received before enrollment can be confirmed.  You will receive a phone call or E-mail shortly before the class start date to confirm your registration.

Refunds

No refunds unless extenuating circumstances and at the discretion of  director.

Child Illness Policy

In courtesy to other class participants, please do not bring your child to class if he/she has had any of the following symptoms within 24 hours prior to class time:  fever, rash, diarriah, vomiting, pink eye.

Make-Up Classes

Classes will be made up only in  the event of teacher illness.  If inclement weather occurs and either SIUE or Edwardsville School District 7 is closed, your class will be cancelled.

Non-enrolled Siblings

Due to the carefully researched structure of the Kindermusik curriculum and for you, your children, and the group to get the most out of each class, DO NOT bring non-enrolled siblings to class.

Making the Most of Kindermusik Classes

Plan to arrive about 5-10 minutes early for class. Arriving a little before class provides time for your child to settle into the musical environment as he prepares to enjoy exploring instruments, reading books, or listening to music.  I do request that toys, juice cups, and pacifiers be kept out of sight, and that snacks be finished prior to class.  Be sure to dress comfortably.

During class, the most important thing you can do for your child is to be an active and patient role model.  It is not uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class.  Don’t be discouraged - what a child is absorbing in class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment rather than in a certain level of participation in class.  The understanding and consistency of the parent or caregiver in class and at home are key to facilitating musical learning and growth.

Parents, please visit with peers before and after class, but not during class time.  When you are an active, focused, enthusiastic participant in the class activities, your child will model your actions and focus more fully too.

You and your child will enormously benefit from the Kindermusik experience, especially if you make active use of your At Home Materials.  Frequent reinforcement at home throughout the week makes all the difference in a child’s comfort and participation in the class room as well as in his developing life-long love of music.

Questions or Concerns?

If at anytime before and/or during the class semester you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me.   I look forward to having you and your child join us for a musically fun semester of Kindermusik classes!

HEALTH AND SAFETY CLASS POLICIES

See “Healthy & Happy” Initiative Poster and Hand Sanitizer in Your Classroom:

1)  I wanted  to remind you that I continue to join in Kindermusik International’s Healthy & Happy initiative which is created to help protect you and your children from the spread of viruses like the H1N1 flu (also known as the “Swine Flu”).

By collecting facts, checklists, and prevention tips from the Centers for Disease Control, Kindermusik is making sure I am more prepared than ever to provide an environment much less likely to allow viruses to spread.
·       I am disinfecting toys and instruments at CDC standards to prevent transmission.
·       I have added hand sanitizer distribution to each child at the start and end of each class (under parent supervision with younger children).
·       I receive updated information on virus prevention and trends from the CDC.

2)  When a class activity suggests touching, such as holding hands in circle dances, it’s always your option to not hold hands.

3) I highly recommend washing hands with soap/water AND hand sanitizer before and after class.

4)  In courtesy to other class participants, please do not bring your child to class if he/she has had any of the following symptoms within 24 hours prior to class time:  fever, rash, diarrhea, vomiting.  And if YOU have symptoms of illness, please do not join us either. Thank you for not sharing. J

Safety in Our Kindermusik Classroom

I do my very best to make our classroom “child-friendly”.  However, I need your continued assistance and support in keeping ALL of our Kindermusik children safe and parents feeling comfortable during class….

Important Reminders:

1) Please DO NOT allow your children to crawl on top of or underneath the classroom furniture.
I want to prevent any mishaps from occurring.  Also, it can be a distraction to other children who may want to “follow suit”.

2) Please DO NOT allow your children to run around the room free with instruments in their hands.  Again, I want to prevent the potential injury to your child or another parent’s child that could easily occur in that scenario.

Your child’s health, safety, and happiness is important to me. You are such committed and wonderful Kindermusik parents. I know these issues are priorities to you as well.  Please contact me if you have further questions so I can be sure to make you feel at ease in coming to class with us!
